Dalton Massachusetts

Enjoy Nature And History

A trip to Dalton Massachusetts can be an adventure. And, for a small town, there is more to do than you would think.

If you love the outdoors, there is much to see and do:

Visit Wahconah Falls State Park. Spend a day at the park and experience the wonder of your surroundings.

Plan a picnic lunch and use the picnic tables and grills that are provided. (There are restroom facilities for public use as well.)

And, after lunch, why not take a hike? Or, if you prefer, just sit at the base of the 40 foot falls and soak up the peace and tranquility of the day.

Are you a fisherman (or woman)? If so, fishing is allowed in Wahconah Falls Brook. So, grab a pole and bring it along.

There are other places to fish in Dalton Massachusetts as well.
These include:

Streams, rivers, and creeks such as:

  • Cleveland Brook

  • Walker Brook

  • Wahconah Falls Brook

  • Anthony Brook

  • Weston Brook

  • the East Branch of the Housatonic River

Larger bodies of water such as:
  • Anthony Pond

  • Gore Pond

  • Center Pond

  • Egypt Reservoir

  • Hathaway Reservoir

  • Little Egypt Reservoir

And, in the winter, Wahconah Falls State Park allows snowmobiling and skiing.

If you are not “into nature,” why not play a round of golf at the Wahconah Country Club.

Or, if history is your thing, take a trip to the Crane Museum of Papermaking which houses historical exhibits of the American papermaking industry. This museum presents a history of papermaking from the Revolutionary period to the present with a focus on the papers made by Crane & Co. Those with an interest in money or stationary, as well as papermaking, may wish to visit this museum which is free to the public.

A little known fact: Crane & Company has produced the paper for all U.S. currency to be printed on.

If you are not up to a picnic, there are many restaurants and eateries located in and around the Dalton area.

And, if you would like to stay in Dalton, there numerous types of
Central Berkshire accommodations available for you to choose from.

Whether you prefer a museum or the outdoors, there is something to keep you entertained. So, pack a lunch, take a walking stick, bring your fishing gear, or your grab your golf clubs and enjoy a fun-filled day (or more) in Dalton Massachusetts.
