Egremont Massachusetts

Outdoor Adventures Await You

Egremont Massachusetts is located in Southern Berkshire County. And, even though it is small in size, it is actually made up of two small towns consisting of a northern district and a southern district.

Although it is small, this town is best known for its outdoor activities.

Jug End State Reservation & Wildlife Management Area, once the site of a popular resort in the Berkshires, is now a protected nature park that is open for public use. Hiking and hunting are the main activities carried out in the park.

And, if you love hiking, you may also gain access to a portion of the Appalachian Trail from the Jug End State Reservation.

If you are a bird lover, you will enjoy the annual guided Bird Walk at Jug End that is given through the Egremont Land Trust. These guided tours are led by a professional and are quite educational as well as fun. If you plan on joining the walk, be sure to bring your field glasses.

History buffs may be interested in visiting the town of Egremont during the month of July. This is when they have their annual historic walk through the town, which is also conducted by the Land Trust.

Another educational and fun event the Land Trust holds is the annual Wildflower Walk. Led by a local wildflower expert, this guided walk is led through fields and along the Green River where many species of plants may be viewed and identified.

If you are a ski buff, Catamount Ski Area offers downhill skiing and snow boarding during the winter months.

And, from May through October, Catamount’s Aerial Adventure Park provides a variety of challenging activities. These activities consist of ropes courses and zip lines which vary in levels of difficulty. There have been several different courses built to suit various levels of ability. These courses were designed for use by children and adults ages 7 and up.

If you like to go swimming or boating or are just looking for a few good fishing spots, you will also find several lakes and streams in the town.

These include:

Larger bodies of water such as:

  • Davis Pond

  • Marsh Pond

  • Mill Pond

  • Prospect Lake

Streams, rivers, and creeks such as:
  • Green River

  • Fenton Brook

  • Karner Brook

And, horse lovers will enjoy Blue Rider Stables, Inc.. They offer programs for all ages and walks of life. Programs include therapy, horsemanship, body work, vaulting, and bareback riding.

For those who love camping, Prospect Lake Park is open from the first weekend in May through October 15. Located along a wooded lake shore, they offer campsites and cabin accommodations.

Looking for a great place to have a meal? You may choose to dine at one of the many places to eat in and around the local area.

And, if you are planning to stay in the area for a while, there are many types of lodging available.
