Hancock Massachusetts
Home of Hancock Shaker Village
Hancock Massachusetts is a quaint town located in Central Berkshire County with much to offer.
In this town you will find the Hancock Shaker Village. This community, named the “City of Peace” by the Shakers, is now a living museum. It is a National Historic Landmark and the largest Shaker museum in the east.
Shaker Village consists of a working farm with animals, gardens, an extensive collection of Shaker artifacts, twenty historic buildings including the famous “round stone barn,” a Center for Shaker Studies, hiking trails and more.
Craft demonstrations are offered and visitors may talk with interpreters and view the grounds at their own pace. Hiking trails are available for use including a handicapped accessible loop which winds through pastures and woodlands.
Named one of the 1000 best attractions in Massachusetts in 2010, Ioka Valley Farm is a family owned and operated working farm which provides high quality, locally grown products and seasonal events for all ages.
Enjoy maple sugar products and Sugar House tours in the spring, Uncle Don’s Barnyard and strawberry picking in the summer, the Family Fun Center and pumpkin patch in the fall, and cutting your own Christmas tree in the winter.
Located just down the road is Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort. This year-round resort offers snowboarding, skiing, and lessons and a Mountain Coaster in the winter.
And, from late spring through fall, they have lift-served mountain biking; a mountain adventure park with: trampoline, climbing wall, spider web, kid climb, giant swing, alpine super slide, mountain coaster, and scenic chair lift; and an aerial adventure park with an aerial forest ropes course consisting of five individual courses for different ability levels.
Lodging may also be found on the property.
For those who are environmentally conscious and enjoy camping, Privacy Campground, a “green” campground, may be where you want to spend some time.
