Tyringham
Experience Nature’s Beauty
Tyringham is a small town located in Southern Berkshire County Massachusetts. This beautiful little town is truly an outdoor lovers paradise.
And, if you love the outdoors, this town has several beautiful places that allow you to commune with nature.
If you’ve always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail, this is your chance. A fairly easy and approximately two-mile segment of the trail passes through the town from the western end of Tyringham to Goose Pond.
McLennan Reservation consists of 500 acres of unspoiled wilderness consisting of forests, hills, and wetlands. Its 1-½ mile trail is moderately difficult with a few strenuous spots but is worth the trip for its amazing views. If you are a birdwatcher, you may want to bring some binoculars along. And, don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy while relaxing in a field of flowers.
Another trail, the Tyringham Cobble Trail, is also about two miles long and offers some spectacular views of the Tyringham Valley as it passes through woodlands, orchards, flower-filled meadows, and exposed bedrock formations. And, don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch to bring along. This loop trail is a moderately difficult hike with a few strenuous places to endure.
Santarella, an historic 18th-century home is known as the “Gingerbread House." This storybook, architectural wonder is truly a magical site to behold. Situated amongst gardens, babbling brooks, and woodlands it also has a walking trail located on the property.
Last, but not least, is Ashintully Gardens consisting of beautiful formal and informal outdoor sculpture gardens. A ½-mile trail leads to the site of its marble palace ruins where you may enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding area.
And, if you like sculpture gardens, Naoussa Gallery & the Ruth O. Cowell Sculpture Garden combines a contemporary art gallery featuring photography, works on paper, sculpture, ceramics, and jewelry with a sculpture garden of marble and other stone works centered around symbolism and nature.
For the fishing fanatic, there are plenty of places to fish.
